For my main take I am going to film the opening sequence of a non-fiction film. To get ideas for my opening sequence I watched a few opening sequences of different films, such as Goodfellas.
The film Goodfellas starts with the film company logo, which was 'Warner Brothers'. During the opening sequence the actor's names came on screen in white text on a black background, while the actor's names came across the screen there was non-dietetic sound of a car, which was very effective. Then again in white text on a black background 'This film is based on a true story' appeared, the white text on black background makes the text stand out.
The first scene in the opening sequence is of a car driving down a deserted road, the car links to the non-dietetic sound herd when the actor's names appeared on screen. In the car are three conspicus men dressed in suits, this suggests that the men could be gangsters. The camera then pull focuses on a man sat in the passenger seat of the car. The camera then does a tracking shot of the car as it slows down. The three men then get out of the car. Then there is a shot of the men stood behind the car with the red break lights shining on them, this could suggest murder and unpleasant events to come. The camera then slowly zooms in on the boot of the car, one of the men opens the boot and murders a man that is inside, by stabbing and shooting him. The camera then focuses in on one of the gangster men played by Ray Liotta as a narrators voice says 'As far back as I can remember i wanted to be a gangster' this introduces this character and shows that the voice talking is the character in shot. It then goes back to a scene of Ray Liotta's character at a younger age. The narrator then explains over the scenes about the characters life, there is also non-dietetic sound of cheerful music under the narrators voice. This makes these scenes more light hearted then the murder that just took place. Then the film title appears, still on the black background but this time with red text. The colour red is associated with power, anger, heat, blood, and aggression. The narrator then goes on to explain how the thought of being a gangster when he was younger was better than being president of the untied stated which shows how he really wanted to be a gangster. Then at the bottom of the screen In white text 'East New York Brooklyn 1955' appeared, this is so that the views know where the film is set. The narrative voice then goes on to explain more about Ray Litta's characters life. Then the narrative voice stops as a character begins to talk, this character is Ray Liotta's childhood character's father. He confronts Ray Liotta's characters about not going to school, he then beats him with a belt. Then the nattative voice continues by saying 'Every once in a while you have to rake a beating'. This shows that the characters state of mind was set on being a gangster.
